1- Metrópolis (Fritz Lang, 1927)

Metropolis é um dos filmes mais influentes da história com relação à fotografia, arquitetura e cenografia, possivelmente é o próprio filme que começou o debate da relação do cinema com ambientações e edificações. O idealismo do filme reflete o tempo em que ele foi feito e o otimismo generalizado da época com relação ao futuro e aos avanços científicos. Todos esses elementos, ampliados pelo brilhantismo do expressionismo alemão faz com que essa obra inspire muitas pessoas – incluindo arquitetos! – Até os dias de hoje. A arquitetura nesse filme é, simplesmente, a objetificação do futuro, assim como em seus sucessores, Tomorrowland (2015) ou Blade Runner (1982), mas esse com uma pegada mais sombria.

Metropolis is one of the most influential films regarding photography, architecture and scenography in history and is, quite possibly, the movie that started out the debate on the relation of cinema with settings and edifications. The idealism of the film reflects the time it was made and the optimism generated in time regarding the future and the scientific advances. All these elements, enhanced by the brilliance of the German expressionism makes this work inspirational for many people – including architects! – up to today. The architecture is this piece is, simply, the objectification of the future, as well as in its successors such as Tomorrowland (2015) or Blade Runner (1982), but this one with a darker feeling.

2- O Gabinete do Dr. Caligari (Robert Wiene, 1920)

Novamente o Expressionismo Alemão traz, em forma de design e arquitetura, a representação de sentimentos e climas, com formas abstratas e, muitas vezes, surreais. Essa obra é considerada uma das mais influentes dentro desse movimento artístico, possivelmente porque estava muito a frente de seu tempo quanto a suas representações de formas e espaços.

Again the German Expressionism brings us, in the shape of design and architecture, the representation of feelings and vibes, with abstract shapes and, many times, surreal. This work is considered one of the most influent ones within its artistic styles, possibly because it was way ahead of its time regarding the shapes and space usage.

3- A Origem (Christopher Nolan, 2015)

Inception

Contemporâneo e dirigido por Chistopher Nolan, A Origem é basicamente sobre arquitetos que conseguem construir novas realidades (mesmo que imaginárias), através dos sonhos. As cidades e os ambientes tomam formas diversas que se constroem e conversam com roteiros, personagens e climatizações, enchendo a tela com estruturas e uma beleza ímpar difícil de não ser admirada.

Contemporary and directed by Chistopher Nolan, Inception is basically about architect that manage to construct new realities (even in imaginary), through dreams. Cities and sets take different forms that are built in and speak to the script, characters and settings, filling the screen with structures of unique beauty which are hard to not admire.

4- Harry Potter

Se há um personagem mais bem construído que todos na saga Harry Potter é o castelo de Hogwarts. Os ambientes mudam com vida própria, os quadros contam histórias e os próprios tijolos tomados pelas ações do tempo se constroem entre brigas, romances, dramas estudantis e, claro, conflitos e guerras. À medida que os personagens crescem, mais da escola é mostrada, explorada e compreendida pelos espectadores que, a cada filme que assistem, desejam mais e mais poder estudar nesse castelo.

If there’s a character better built than the others in the Harry Potter saga, it’s definitely the Hogwarts Castle. The settings change with their own life, the paintings tell stories and the bricks themselves, taken by the actions of time, are built in fights, romances, student drama and, of course, conflicts and war. Following the characters’ growth, more of the school is shown, explored and understood by the viewers who, in every film, desired more and more to be able to study there.

5- O Iluminado (Stanley Kubrick, 1980)

Stanley Kubrick em todo o seu perfeccionismo em vida, assim como alguns que ainda vivem, trabalhou sempre com muita minúcia em todas os elementos envolvidos em seus filmes. Agora, quando o assunto é puramente a arquitetura – mesmo que não se possa deixar passar batido a beleza das estruturas vistas em 2001: Uma Odisseia no Espaço -, é do Iluminado que falaremos. O hotel, reflexo de todas as tragédias e dramas por quais já passou, tem vida própria e é construído entre muitos detalhes e um bom gosto estético invejável que, constantemente, permite um misto de admiração e terror assistindo à obra.

Stanley Kubrick in all his perfectionism in life, just like some of the living, always worked with a lot of minutia in all the elements involved in his filmes. Now, when the subject is purely architecture – even if you can’t dismiss 2001: A Space Odyssey -, is The Shining we are talking about. The Hotel, reflex of all its tragedies and dramas, has its own life and it’s built within many details and a good aesthetical taste that is enviable and that, constantly, allows a mixture of admiration and terror when watching this work.
