A dica de hoje vai para Abstract (2017), uma série documental curtinha, produzida pela Netflix sobre a indústria criativa. Apresentando uma variedade de profissionais, das mais variadas disciplinas dentro do termo "design”, como arquitetos, designer gráficos e designers de cenografia, a série permite que o espectador entre na mente desses trabalhadores e entenda suas motivações, processos criativos e carreiras. É um programa curto, interessante e instigante sobre algumas pessoas que mudaram os paradigmas de suas áreas de atuações. Por esse motivo, a série não atende somente quem está inserido na indústria criativa, mas todos que procurar uma maneira de pensar diferente sobre as coisas.

The tip today goes to Abstract (2017), a short documental series, produced by Netflix, about the creative industry. Showing a variey of professional, of many subjects within the term "design”, as architect, graphic designers and stage designers, the series allows the viewers to get inside these workers minds and understand their motivations, creative processes and careers. It’s a short series, interesting and provoking about some people that changed the paradigms of the areas they work in. For that reason, the show doesn’t only meet the needs of who is in the creative industry, but everyone who looks for a way to think outside the box.

Christoph Niemann – Ilustrador
Illustrator
Niemann é um ilustrador, artista e autor cujos trabalhos já apareceram em capas do The New Yorker, WIRED e New York Times Magazine. Ele já ganhou prêmios como AIGA e o The Lead Awards e trabalha para empresas como o Google e o MoMa (Museum of Modern Art, Nova Iorque). Ele foi a primeira pessoa a fazer uma capa em realidade aumentada para o The New Yorker. Além disso, ele também é autor de livros como “Sunday Sketching"(2016) e “Souvenir” (2017). É também idealizador de aplicativos infantis, como Petting Zoo.

Alguns dos seus designs conhecidos são: Air Jordan – até o 15 – e o Nike Air. Ele também já colaborou com Hiroshi Fujiwara, cujos designs servem de força inovativa para vestimentas esportivas.

Es Devlin – Designer de cenários
Stage Designer
Devlin é uma artista e designer cujas práticas vão de galerias até grandes palcos de shows e teatros. Algumas de suas exposições recentes são: Mask, na Sommerter House (Londres, 2018), Magicbox, no V&A (Victoria and Albert Museum, Londres, 2017). Ela começou em pequenas galerias na capital da Inglaterra, mas nas últimas duas décadas ampliou suas atuações através do teatro nacional e a O2 Arena, por exemplo. A artista, que costuma trabalhar com audiovisual e projeções em objetos e plataformas, já ganhou vários prêmios, como a London Design Medal, em 2017.

Devlin is an artist and designer whose practice range from galleries to big stages of concerts and theaters. Some of her recent exhibits are: Mask, at the Sommerset House (London, 2018), Magicbox, at the V&A (Victoria and Albert Museum, Londres, 2017). She started out in little galleries in the capital of England, but in the last two decades she expanded her works through the National Theatre and the O2 Arena, for example. The artist, who usually work with audio-visual and projections in objects and platformas, already won several awards, such as the London Design Medal, in 2017.

Bjarke Ingels – Arquiteto
Architect
Ingels é constantemente citado como um dos arquitetos mais inspiradores de sua época, e com pouco mais de 40 anos – quando a maioria dos profissionais da área ainda estão se estabelecendo -, ele já venceu vários concursos e alcançou níveis de respeito altíssimos dentro da arquitetura. A obra do arquiteto costuma trabalhar com aspectos positivos sociais, que otimiza o uso do espaço de forma lúdica, o harmonizando com o meio em que ele está fazendo dele acessível e, muitas vezes, ecológico. Ele chama essa ideia de “sustentabilidade hedonista”, vide o manifesto lançado em 2009 chamado Yes is More.
Para aprofundar seus conhecimentos sobre Arquitetura/ Design social, o livro "Design Like You Give a Damn” (Kate Stohr & Cameron Sinclair, 2006) é uma ótima escolha!

The artist’s work usually works with positive social aspects, that optimized the use of space in a ludic way, harmonizing it with the environment it is set on. Making it accessible and, many times ecological. He calls this idea “hedonistic sustainability”, given his manifest released in 2009 called Yes is More.

Ralph Gilles – Designer Automotivo

Aos 14 anos, ao mandar um de seus conceitos de design automotivo – que desenhava desde os 8 -, K. Neil Walling, o chefe da Chrysler naquela época, respondeu com sugestões de faculdades de design para quais ele poderia ir. Gilles em Agosto de 2008, substituiu Trevor Creed como Senior Vice Presidente de Design da Fiat Chrysler, em 2009 foi promovido a CEO da marca Dodge, mas foi substituído em 2011, mas se manteve CEO da divisão da Chrysle Street and Racing Techology (tecnologia de ruas e corridas).

When he was 14, sending one of his automotive design concepts – that he drew from the age of 8 -, K. Neil Walling, Chrysler’s boss at the time, replied with a list of suggested design colleges for him to attend. Gilles, in August 2008, replaced Tevor Creed as the Senior Vice-President of Design of Fiat Chrysler, in 2009 was promoted to CEO of the Dodge brand, but was replaced in 2011. However, he was kept as the CEO of the Chrysler Street and Racing Technology.

Scher é uma das designers mais influentes do mundo e traça, maravilhosamente, a linha entre cultura pop e arte em seu trabalho que, normalmente, é sempre icônico, inteligente e acessível. A mulher começou sua carreira como diretora de arte nos anos 70, mas seu estilo eclético de uso tipográfico logo ficou forte e influente. Ela é a responsável por identidades visuais famosas (que são, inclusive, casos de estudo da hoje) como a da Tiffay & Co e do Citybank. Além disso, ela já trabalhou para diversas empresas como o MoMa, a Coca-Cola e o Shake Shack.
Existem vários livros de design gráfico para indicar (olá História do Design Gráfico, Philip B. Meggs, 2009), mas se você quer faze-lo acessível como a Scher, um bom ponto de começo é o livro The Design Activist’s Handbook” (Noah Scalin & Michelle Taute, 2012).

The woman started her career as an art director in the 70’s, but her eclitic style of typography soon became strong and influent. O fotógrafo ficou famoso tirando retratos de figuras públicas para diversas publicações internacionais, como Rolling Stone Magazine, Vanity Fair e Esquire. Em 2007 ele ganho um prêmio pela fotografia de Vladimir Putin para a revista Time, para qual ganhou o primeiro lugar no concurso World Press de fotografias. Ele já exibiu em várias galerias e eventos como a Colette, na França. Hoje, o artista tem , inclusive, uma organização não lucrativa chamada The People’s Portfolio.

Crawford tem como foco as necessidades humanas e constrói ambientes entorno dessas questões. É por isso que conta com uma equipe multidisciplinar no seu estúdio em Londres, porque se as pessoas passam grande parte da vida delas dentro de edifícios, eles deveriam ser feitos para se adaptarem a elas, não o contrário. Ela fez designs como o The Ode Bell Inn Hotel na Inglaterra e os Lodges da Cathay Pacific em Tóquio. Além disso, ela já cooperou com empresas como IKEA. Algumas peças da artista são candidatas a patrimônio da UNESCO.
